By the Sea Card - Eclectic Ellapu August Challenge

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! I'm sure you didn't really miss me, but I missed you all! I just spent the last 5 days foraging around in the forest with my family on a very primitive camping trip.

It. Involved. Vault. Toilets.

And now I am back and boy was I ever ready to get back into the craft room! Paper. Ink. Stamps - the smell of life (and not vault toilets)!!

Today I'm posting my design team make for Eclectic Ellapu. The theme is "By the Sea". At first I was stumped, and then I remembered this great summery STAMPlorations set and got to work.

I pulled out my patterned cardstock and started by stamping it onto a bunch of different patterns.

I channeled my inner Lauren Bergold, the famed paper piecer and had a ton of fun doing it. I used my Cricut to die cut some wave patterns from various blue patterns.

And then I fussy cut. And fussy cut again. And again. whew! I love it though!

I'm going to enter my card into the following awesome challenges:
Crafty Gals Corner - Anything Goes
DL Art Thankful Thursday - Summertime
Simon Says Stamp - Anything Goes
Sisterhood of Crafters - Summer Heat

As for you - you should head over to Eclectic Ellapu and play along with our "By the Sea" theme!

Speaking of by the sea - here's a couple of shots of my vacation:

Wading through the Mississippi Headwaters

My little nephew, Landon, catching his first fish

Sugary grins with my niece, Emma, and spending some quality time with my shy nephew, Bryson.

Thanks for popping by my blog! I'll begin announcing winners of my birthday bash blog giveaway starting tomorrow so make sure to tune in!

  2. I don't know what vault toilets are Becca but if they are anything like the toilets we had to use when I was kid and went camping with my parents, let's just say I get it lol!
I just entered a second card into your celebration hun, sounds like you had an awesome time despite the toilets, so that is good and lovely to see your pictures too. Love your card! I have been channeling your colours this week as I tried purple and teal for the first time: love it! Have a fab weekend and do lots of crafting Karen xx

  5. What a gorgeous card!! I love the design and the pretty papers you used!! It looks amazing!! And what sweet pictures!! The part I hated most about camping growing up was the toilets (we called them pit toilets!!) Thankfully my parents have an RV now so no more shared bathrooms!! I'm glad you had a wonderful time my friend!! Have a great weekend :)

  6. You are so brave. I tried camping as a teenager. It was okay back then, but now... Roughing it for me is a hotel with no room service, lol!! Beautiful photos. Sweet children, and I'll bet they had a blast. It's good to be with family, even if there's no flush toilets. I love what you've done with your card. Those scallops are fun with just the right amount of funky going on. And what sweet sand toys. This is one sweet card. Love it! Bev

  16. I have never heard of "vault toilet" so I had to google it LOL. Looks like it's what we call an outhouse. Yeah, they're pretty bad. But it looks like you had a great time camping! And your card is gorgeous - love your paper-piecing!

  17. What is a vault toilet? I presume it is something primitive ;-) Love your beachy card...well worth all the fussy cutting xx

  18. Yeah, what's a vault toilet? Sounds nasty. But then I DO NOT enjoy camping unless it's at a 5 star resort with a cabana boy. I see, though, your card making skills have not diminished in the least. What a terrific, beachy card. It's a perfect example of paper piecing. I can feel the sand between my toes. Now, where is that cabana boy with my drink?

  20. I have to ask...what is a vault toilet?? It does not sound the greatest to use. My good friend also has a nephew named Bryson who loves her Pug, Quinn! I love the design of your card and the way you applied all these patterned papers together-the one paper looks like sun showers. Great looking card...now I know what I will do with this challenge and the challenge you presented

  28. ok, see, YEAH, indoor plumbing is just not appreciated enough until there is camping or a power outage and then we count our flush-based, non-smelly blessings, eh?! :) :) :) seems like maybe you waited a week too long to channel your "inner lauren bergold" b/c that chick woulda been shouting, "hotel! NOW!!!!!!!" on like the 1st night, lol... plus... you clearly DO NOT need my help (or anybody's!) at all when it comes to paper-piecing or fussy cutting or pattern-combining or indeed anything at all to do with the making of ♥AMAZING♥ cards!!! yowza! ♥

  29. Vault toilets. NOPE. Although it's a step up from the camping trip in high school where we had to dig our own holes every time. I do not camp. lol
The fussy cutting and hand cramps were definitely worth it - this is a beauty. And I love the snapshots of vacation!

  33. After I catch up with comments (I apologize profusely for being sooooo late!) I'm going to stand in the corner to teach myself a lesson about tardiness! Vault toilets...ewwww! I know all about *those* (and worse, trust me) from our trek in Nepal several years back...and when I got incredibly sick, well...let's just say *those* toilets didn't help the situation! Anyway, enough potty talk! Your beach card is such fun, but it's the photos - especially of your niece and nephews - that has my heart singing! That sugary smile...oh yes! My Ms. T sports one of those, too!
    Hugs~c
